Beyond The Shelf :: Formula 1 Fan Girl
A New feature here at For Love and Books!
A chance to get to know the Blogger behind the Blog!
There are so many depths to all of us, beyond books and I thought it’d be fun to share a little of my personal life with my readers! Pass on some passions, share some photos and just share general news.

This weekend? I’m sharing my favorite sport (Formula 1) with you guys! If you follow my twitter, then you have probably noticed my (not so)random #F1 tweets. Tomorrow (March 18) is the season opening race – The Australian Grand Prix! Sure, I love football (I’m a die-hard Nebraska Cornhuskers fan!) and I love basketball. And don’t even start me on my love for the Boston Red Sox! But, I never. NEVER. Miss a Formula 1 Race. (And I’m planning my epic road trip to Austin in November!)
Now, before you zone out – which I totally see some of you doing! “Eh, Car racing? I’ve got better ways to spend the next 5 minutes.” Just bear with me for a moment. Really. I mean, Cute Boys (with names like Sebastian, Jenson, Kimi, Fernando) – All of them Foreign (with awesome accents!) if you’re a reader in the U.S.!! Fun locations, and this year? The US is getting their own race on the circuit again – Austin! (And seriously – Just check out my collage – courtesy of my younger sister – for some eye candy!!)
Now that I’ve stated my love! (And for the record? My allegiance lies primarily with Kimi Räikkönen (The 2007 World Champion from Finland) and Jenson Button (The 2009 World Champion from the UK). I want to focus more on one of the sports Legends, Ayrton Senna.
Here in the U.S. we just got the release of the Documentary Senna. (Which is also on Netflix!) Which is a pretty good introduction to the sport – although the footage is entirely from the 1980′s and early 1990′s. (If you’re in Europe? You’ve probably seen it, or at least the men in your life have. )
Senna’s story really is what started the huge move toward Safety in auto racing (at least in modern times.) And, in the worlds fastest paced open-wheel driving, this is a huge step! Although if you do decide to watch the movie? Have a box of tissues, you’ll need them.
If you’re in the U.S. and want to catch the race? You’ll probably have to DVR it – unless you’re awake in the middle of the night! But Speed Channel has Practice (Friday) Qualifying (Saturday) and Races (Sunday) and their commentators are fabulous! There’s also a HUGE tumblr community – of which I do NOT participate. But my sister is a wee bit obsessed. I’m more of a “Watch the Races and go on with life” fan! *lol*
And before I leave you – the BBC 2012 Preview!
Thanks for sticking with me today, I love being able to share a bit of my other “loves” with you all!! But now I’m curious, what’s your favorite sport? Team? Driver?
