Katie and Jenni have found new lives with the survivors of their makeshift fort, but danger still lurks. Nothing is easy in the new world where the dead walk and every day is a struggle to keep safe. As the elements, bandits, and the zombie horde threaten their safe haven, Jenni and Katie join the other survivors in fighting to survive as the world dies.

Before I even write my review, I have to ask! Mrs Frater, who do you think you are writing an ending like that?? I am so glad I don’t have to wait months and months and months for the next book to come out! Because the epilogue? It had me screaming.

So…. I loved The First Days. It was unputdownable. I saved Fighting to Survive for a road trip, I knew I’d need something to keep my mind busy for ten hours, and this was the perfect option! I opted for the audio book, which again? Perfect Narration! (I even found myself on the lookout for zombies as I drove through an abandoned town in Kansas!)

Once again, Rhiannon’s writing is griping. It’s so easy to get lost in the pages of these books, the characters the settings, everything. I can picture the fort perfectly in my mind. (And even better? I can picture Travis and Juan so vividly. *puts tongue back in mouth* ) The locations are perfect, the zombies realistic! (Seriously, don’t read/listen to this while you’re eating. I made that mistake.)

The characters are great, again. But I expected that. We got to see more of Narit, whom I adore. I fell in love with Juan, and Jenni entirely redeemed herself. (Although, as I’ve mentioned before? To me – Jenni was an abuse victim acting out of PTSD/Natural responses to an abuse victim, and that just hit FAR too close to home. I much prefer her now that she’s refused to continue to be the old Jenni!) And at one point, I tweeted Rhiannon Frater letting her know that I will be VERY disappointed if something happens to Jenni and Juan, because I just adore them.

But I have to touch my favorite character. Crazy Calhoun is fan-freaking-tastic!! I just loved every moment he was on the pages.

There are some plot twists in this one (not including the MAJOR ciff-hanger at the end) and it really is more about rebuilding their society than it is about surviving the zombie Apocalypse. I loved watching them emerge as a whole society, and rescue other survivors. I truly feel attached to this story and these characters! I look forward to reading the final book in this trilogy, Siege!
